Strong influence from the Pharaohs coach
Egypt coach Hossam Hassan looked sad after losing to Argentina (3-2) and saying goodbye to the 2026 World Cup in a dramatic scenario.
The Egyptian side took the lead with two goals from Yasser Ibrahim and Mustafa Zico, while the Argentine side managed to overturn the result in the final minutes through Christian Romero, Lionel Messi and then Enzo Fernandez, who scored the winning goal in the second minute, sending Tango into the quarter-finals.
The Egyptian national team was close to a historic achievement, having qualified for the quarter-finals for the first time in its history, but Lionel Messi’s teammates managed to snatch victory from the pharaohs’ fangs.
After the meeting, Hossam Hasan appeared in a video call with his wife, which was published by Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper, during which he kept repeating: “We were very close… I don’t like to lose.”
Hossam Hassan managed to achieve a great achievement with the Pharaohs, crossing the group stage for the first time in the World Cup, and also advanced to the round of 32, beating Australia on penalties.
Hossam Hasan objected to the arbitration in his post-match statementsHe held himself responsible for the defeat to Argentina, stressing that it was due to marketing considerations to keep Messi at the World Cup.
