Robbie Ure: Sweden’s top goalscorer who hopes to play for Scotland

Robbie Ure bagged four of his side’s goals at the weekend, becoming Allsvenskan’s top scorer en route to shooting the fashionable Ike Sirius to a nine-point lead at the top of the Swedish top flight.

The former Rangers striker is attracting interest from major European leagues, so will Scotland recognize the 22-year-old’s progress ahead of Ukraine?

Born and raised in Glasgow and capped for Scotland up to Under-19 level, Ure made the call from Ukraine, for which he qualified under the grandfather rule.

“I was watching Scotland at the World Cup and it was something that, of course, I would have loved to have been involved in,” he said.

“My ambition is to play for Scotland one day but I’m under no pressure for that situation. I think what I do at club level will give me the opportunity I deserve.

“I would like to be involved with the men’s first team but of course if it is under-21 then no problem. I am young and I think I will have a good international career.”

Scotland doesn’t want to linger too long as Ukraine flounders.

“Communication has been made,” Ure confirmed. “It’s been more in the last few months and last year as well. But it’s not a decision I’m going to rush into. I definitely feel I want to play for Scotland.”

Ure has scored 11 goals in 11 appearances for Sirius this season, taking his total to 22 in 41 since moving to Uppsala, Sweden’s fourth-largest city, in March 2025.

“It was my first hat-trick, the first time I scored four goals in the same game so it was really special for me,” he said of his feat in a remarkable 4-4 draw with defending champions Mjalbi.

“It was one of those games where I felt very confident, I had a lot of faith and it was like everything was falling in the right direction for me.”

Previously, he left Rangers after a senior goal against Queen of the South because he couldn’t get a game in and spent 18 months with Anderlecht’s B team in Belgium’s second tier.

“When I first came to the club, I had a settling-in period and I don’t think I scored my first goal in five games,” he explained. “But I’m used to the level. I’m used to the responsibility that I have now. I enjoy the responsibility and I feel like I’m going to make an impact every game.”
