Wimbledon 2026 result: Alfie Hewett from wheelchair singles but Gordon Reid out

Britain’s Alfie Hewett reached a 10th Wimbledon wheelchair singles quarter-final – but was beaten in the first round by compatriot Gordon Reid.

Hewett began his bid for a second SW19 title with a 6-1 6-3 win over Netherlands’ Tom Egberink.

Hewett completed the singles career Grand Slam with his win at Wimbledon in 2024.

“It’s a privilege to be on this court and it’s definitely something I don’t take for granted every year,” said the 28-year-old, who made his Wimbledon debut in 2016.

“It’s a tournament where I probably don’t have the best sleep, but that’s because of the excitement and the experience I’ve had here.

“Wimbledon is really a standout for me. Hopefully this year will be even better.”

Second-seeded Hewett will face Ji Zhenxu for a place in the semi-finals.
