Sen. Mitch McConnell, a top Republican lawmaker who has been in the hospital for more than three weeks, is facing increasing health concerns.
McConnell, 84, was admitted for treatment on June 14, his staff said. The aides did not provide any details about the reason for his hospital stay or what type of treatment he was receiving.

On Tuesday, several Republicans said they spoke to McConnell, the longest-serving Senate caucus leader in U.S. history. Their comments came after Trump’s partner – influencer Laura Lommer – said on X that the Kentucky senator was in “vegetable mode”.
Several US media outlets reported that 911 calls from McConnell’s home were for an “unconscious” man suffering from “cardiac arrest”.
The calls also indicated that CPR was being performed on the patient. McConnell, who has served in the Senate for more than 40 years, was not named in the footage.
On Tuesday, right-wing activist Lumar McConnell posted that he was “brain dead and connected to a machine” and called it a “cover up.”
She also criticized his wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, for visiting China during their stay at McConnell Hospital.
The Chinese government confirmed that Chao met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng in Beijing, three days after McConnell was hospitalized.
A spokesman for Chao told the BBC on Tuesday night that McConnell’s health was “immediately improving” despite her return to the US.
“The author was on a long-planned trip to China to support her family’s charity work. During the trip, she met with several people, including the US ambassador,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
In an apparent effort to counter Loomer’s claims, several Republican colleagues released a statement Tuesday saying they had spoken with the former Senate leader by phone.
John Thune, a spokesman for the Senate leadership, said the two had “a long and important discussion covering a wide range of topics, including national security.”
