From mouthwash to hair dye: How weight-loss jabs are changing shopping habits.


Munjaro and Wegovi – the UK’s most popular weight-loss drugs – mimic the natural hormone GLP-1, which controls hunger, and users say they have reduced appetite.

In June, Worldpanel by market research firm Numerator published a study showing how this is affecting grocery spending among UK consumers. The study was based on survey responses and looked at purchase data from more than 11,000 households in February.

The main finding was that households with at least one GLP-1 user spent an average of £418 less on groceries per year after starting their medication than non-users.

It estimates that this has resulted in a £780m drop in grocery spending nationally.
