The Brigadier General made statements supporting the Palestinian cause
A number of fans of the Argentina national team, who were present at the “Mercedes-Benz” stadium in the American city of Atlanta, tried to provoke the coach of the Egyptian national team, Hossam Hassan, after the match between the two teams of the 2026 World Cup, but the general’s reaction was violent.
The Egyptian team was eliminated from the World Cup in the 1/8 finals in a crazy scenario by its Argentinian counterpart, after a match that witnessed controversial arbitration decisions.
After the African side took an unanswered double through Yasser Ibrahim and Mustafa Zico, the reigning champions hit back with hat-tricks from Christian Romero, Lionel Messi and Enzo Fernandez (3-2).
Camera lenses caught some Tango fans raising the flag of the Zionist organization in the stands in an attempt to provoke Hossam Hassan after his statements in support of the Palestinian cause in a pre-match press conference.
But the Egyptian coach reacted strongly. He pointed to the Egyptian flag with the football association’s logo on his shirt, then shouted insults at them before spitting at them.
Hasan made statements in support of the Palestinian issue, saying at the press conference held on Monday. “If there is someone in the world who does not feel the suffering of the Palestinian people, he is not human. Every person, whether European, American, Arab or from anywhere in the world, should feel what is happening to the Palestinian people.”
“When an animal is harmed, animal protection organizations move to protect it, while we sit in our homes, live in a comfortable atmosphere, eat, drink and wear the best clothes, while the Palestinian people live in the open.”
He continued. “Shame on the world, and shame on those who make the decisions that allow people like us to live in these conditions. One bombardment of Gaza kills thousands, and yet we hear no response from the Western world commensurate with the scale of this tragedy.”
He concluded, “We demand life and justice for the Palestinian people, and just as FIFA is calling for justice, we must also demand their right to life.”
