England vs India: Jofra Archer, Josh Mlas inflict record T20 defeat on tourists

England’s new bowlers, both of whom went over 90 miles per hour, were a delight to create the kind of hostility that the hosts believe will bring success in Test cricket.

His high-pace and short-tempo attack leaves questions for the formidable Indian top order, which has folded in the face of a sustained barrage.

Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were all caught with wickets in the deep, but the decisive moment was the fall of Sooryavanshi.

In the second international, the left-hander cut the second ball he faced off Archer for a six over third man.

Falling silent every time he faced a raucous crowd, Sooryavanshi clipped his next delivery off the tongue, over mid-wicket for another six.

But England were planning to test him with the short ball. Next up by Archer was a 90 mph bowler which Suryavanshi gloved to wicketkeeper Jos Buttler.

Before the powerplay ended, he had archer Tilak Varma at the back as India lost five wickets for the first time in a men’s T20 international.

The rest was a parade. Adil Rashid took two wickets, co-spinner Will Jacks one, Tongu came back to record the best figures in any T20 in his second international.

There was a moment when Curran and Buttler only bowled the ball to the left side when Arshdeep Singh slipped the tongue with what looked like an easy catch.

It was the only thing England did wrong all night. It took 70 runs to dismiss India, their shortest innings in T20s.
