These New Smart Glasses From Solos Come With A Privacy Shield For Cameras

A smart glasses company Solos has been focusing on smart glasses for listening alone. On Tuesday, it announced two new lenses, one of which has a camera — but you can buy an add-on to hide the camera for privacy.

Solos‘ new smart glasses are the exclusive AirGo A6 and the second iteration of its camera lens lineup, the Solos AirGo V2. The latter was first announced last year as a direct test”than Meta.” These $299 glasses do everything you’d expect from a new $299 Meta Meta Mirrorsincluding taking pictures and videos, playing music, and interacting with an AI assistant who can see what you see. They can be fitted with prescription lenses and have a battery life of 10 to 12 hours.

AirGo V2 lenses can also be integrated with the new Privacy feature, a tool that allows wearers to control what their camera lenses can access. A clip-on privacy barrier blocks cameras from being seen and recording the world, allowing you to continue wearing glasses in audio-only mode. There’s also a clip on polarized lens, and the entire modular kit costs $79.

Selling privacy devices as a photo accessory is probably not the best way to avoid the concerns of people running around with small, sensitive cameras on their faces. Buying a device, and turning it on and off every time you want to use or disable the camera, are additional ways to prevent people from having to worry about privacy. Also, there is nothing to prevent actors from removing the shutters later in the encounter – say, after entering a scene that prohibits camera recording.

Solos’ first camera lens, the Solos AirGo Vision, launched in 2024. WIRED listed it in the “Don’t Worry” category. Best Smart Glasses museum, citing good design choices, even those stored in medium-sized video studios, frustrating controls, and power-hungry software that requires a lot of permissions. All in all, the glasses have not reached the Meta level set by the celebrities smart glasses.

Meta has been dominating the smart glasses market, but other big companies are trying to fill the cracks. Google and Samsung have a partnership to develop Google’s Android XR platform, with new glasses arriving later this year from the eyewear company. Warby Parker and Gentle Monster. Apple is said to be developing its own smart glasses as well.

Some smaller companies are changing their target markets to deal with Meta, such as Even True it’s his cameraless glasses. Solos emphasis on privacy comes after a period of opposition to Meta glasses. These devices are called “creepy”distorting mirrors” and was criticized after the company quietly added face recognition code for his glasses, then quickly he removed it after public outcry following the WIRED report. Meta has done itself no favors since then, announcing last week that it would start paying available on its previously free smart glasses.

Meta has acknowledged that a market for hearing-only smart glasses exists, according to CTO Andrew Bosworth. he said in a private Q&A session with the media that they think there is “a definite market demand for the product.” But the Meta didn’t go away from its cameras. It may produce only hearing glasses in the future. Until then, companies like Solos are desperate to get out of the market.
