The Portuguese legend turns the page of the World Cup with calm messages
Despite the bitterness of his last-minute exit, Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to leave a quiet message after Portugal’s 2026 World Cup campaign ended.
The Don confirmed he is leaving the tournament with no regrets, admitting the current campaign was his last at the World Cup after his country’s 1-0 defeat by Spain in the round of 16.
He emphasized that he gave everything he had during the entire tournament.
According to the website, Ronaldo made statements to journalists in the mixed zone after the game kudos“We were a bit unlucky. We conceded a goal in the last minutes and the game was pretty even, but that’s football.”
My conscience is calm… and I will not rush
Ronaldo looked affected after the game and said: “It’s normal for me to be sad after leaving like this, but I also said yesterday that I would do everything I could and I did. I leave with a clear conscience and life goes on.”
Regarding his future, he confirmed. “It’s true, this was the last World Championship for me. As for the rest of my future, I will discuss it with my family and will not make any hasty decisions.”
He said about his ability to overcome the exit. “Tomorrow I will wake up as I am. I won three titles with the national team, after Portugal had won none before, and the 2016 title remains the best for me. I will wake up peacefully because tomorrow is a new day.”

Thank you letter
Ronaldo felt that Portugal were knocked out of the tournament with one of the most popular contenders for the title, adding: “I think Spain will reach the final or very close to it. We did everything we had and when that happens, there’s no room for complaining.”
He also sent a message of thanks to coach Roberto Martinez, who announced his departure after the game, saying: “I really enjoyed working with him. He is a great coach and what he gave to Portugal was very important. He won the title with us and I thank him for everything and I wish him the best of luck.”
The Portugal captain admitted that it was painful to go on the field with a late goal, but emphasized his satisfaction with the game, saying:
When asked what advice he would give him before his first match at the 2006 World Cup, he replied: “I would tell him to always give your best. When you do, you leave with a clear conscience. Representing the national team has always been a great honor for me and at the end I was sad but also relieved because I gave it my all.”
