Wimbledon 2026 results: Arthur Ferry stuns Grigor Dimitrov to reach quarter-finals

Britain’s Arthur Ferry continued his impressive Wimbledon run and made history by defeating Grigor Dimitrov in five straight sets to reach the quarter-finals.

Ferry, the only English player to remain in both singles matches from the second round, defeated the home hopes in a stunning 7-5 3-6 4-6 6-4 7-6 (10-7) victory on Center Court.

World number 114 Ferry showed remarkable character and resilience to claim the biggest win of his career, making his debut on Wimbledon’s biggest stage a short walk from where he grew up.

He proved that, holding his nerve to fight back twice from a break in the fourth set to close out the decisive 10-point break.

The 23-year-old is the first British player to reach the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam and is the youngest player to reach the men’s last eight at Wimbledon for 12 years.

At the end of it all, Ferry stood at center court with his hands on his hips, shaking his head as the crowd rose to its feet.

Swiss great Roger Federer was among the thousands in the center stage at Wimbledon, watching from the Royal Box.

Such theater was unlikely when Dimitrov turned the match around after a brilliant opening by Ferry to lead twice in the fourth set.

But Ferry – as he has done all week – refused to give up and forced the decider and took to the air to celebrate.

Former world number three Dimitrov was aiming to reach the quarter-finals after his bid ended in tears at this very stage 12 months ago, leading eventual champion Janik Cyn to love by two sets before retiring with injury.

But as the tension and anticipation grew, Ferry became only the sixth British player to reach the men’s singles quarter-finals at Wimbledon.

Ferri, who has never made it past the second round at a major, will now face Italy’s ninth seed Flavio Cobolli in the semi-finals on Wednesday.
