France forward Kylian Mbappe has slammed a Paraguayan senator as “despicable” and unfit for her position after she made racist comments mocking his country and his education.
Celeste Amilla, a member of Paraguay’s Liberal Radical Party, made her comments on X after her country lost to France in the last 16 of the World Cup.
Mbappe They responded by saying, External:” Mistress Celeste Amarilla, you are a despised woman and unworthy of your place.”
“You don’t represent Paraguay, that country of rivalry and love.
“With your indifference and your racist racism, the whole world has forgotten the journey and historic effort of your players in this World Cup, where an incompetent woman is giving the image of her country.
“I will never allow people like her to spread their hatred and racism in the world.”
Mbappe scored the winning penalty in the second half of Saturday’s match to set up a quarter-final against Morocco in Boston on Thursday.
With seven goals, Mbappe is the top scorer in this year’s competition, level with Argentina’s Lionel Messi and Norway’s Erling Haaland.
Amarilla’s comments follow former Paraguay goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert’s comments that his national team will face “an African team” in Saturday’s game.
Philippe Diallo, president of the French Football Federation, responded to the comments, calling Chilavert “shameful”.
“I strongly condemn the racist speech by José Luis Chilavert against the French national team, which undermines our football values of respect, fraternity and diversity,” Diallo said.
“Once a great goalkeeper, this man is now in disgrace.”
