Timmy the whale escapes to the North Sea | Story

The whale’s repeated trips to the German coast caused widespread concern and media attention.

A humpback whale calf that caught the attention of the media and was nicknamed Timmy after it was repeatedly stranded in shallow waters off Germany has been released from the North Sea by a rescue team.

The sea animal’s rescue operation, which began as his health deteriorated, lifted Timmy into a water-filled boat and brought him out of Denmark on Saturday.

Karin Walter-Mommert, one of the funders of the project, said the whale appeared to be swimming freely and in the right direction after being released, APF reports.

“Now they have to swim off the coast of Norway to the Arctic,” he said.

Timmy was first seen off the coast of the Baltic Sea in Germany on March 3. He repeatedly got stuck in shallow water, despite efforts to encourage him to return to the deep sea.

Far from its natural habitat in the Atlantic Ocean, the whale became depressed, and the public became increasingly concerned about its plight as its health began to deteriorate and experts worried that it would not survive.

Several attempts to save her, including using inflatable cushions and a pontoon, were unsuccessful, prompting German authorities to declare her dead.

A secret operation to save the animal was approved by the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in Germany, but this led to a debate over whether it would be better to let him die peacefully or force him to return home, a problem that would have been too obvious to him.

Timmy developed blindness from the low salinity of the Baltic Sea, and was unable to move for days, his breathing irregular.

However, using a special boat allowed Timmy to return to his natural habitat.

It is not known why these whales swam in the Baltic Sea, away from the Atlantic Ocean. Some experts say that the animal may have lost its way while swimming after catching fish or during migration.

A GPS transmitter is said to have been contacted by the whale before it was released, meaning there may be more updates to come, with the case being followed aggressively, especially by the media.
