Archivo Far, one of the most popular accounts specializing in the analysis of refereeing cases, caused controversy after the Brazil-Norway 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 match when they confirmed that there was an obvious refereeing error in the match.
Brazil crashed out of the tournament after losing 2-1 to Norway after Erling Haaland scored the winners in the 79th and 90th minutes and Neymar scored Brazil’s only goal from the penalty spot for the first time since 1990.
The Spanish refereeing account has published its analysis of the controversial situation at the X platform, confirming that Brazilian player Ryan committed a flagrant foul on Antonio Nosa during the recovery of the ball at the start of the attack, which later ended in a penalty awarded to Mateusz Cunha.
The score showed that Ryan did not touch the ball at all, but rather clearly interfered with Noosa, given that the foul should have been called and play stopped before the attack could continue.
He added that the video assistant referee made another mistake as he only showed the arena referee the video of the collision between Christopher Eyre and Matthew Cunha in the penalty area, while he completely ignored the previous clip which witnessed Nosa’s foul, which the score described as a “miscommunication” between the VAR room and the match referee.
The incident took place in the first half of the match when the referee awarded Brazil a penalty after Christopher Eyer’s tackle on Matthew Cunha in the penalty area, but Bruno Guimaraes missed the shot after being blocked by goalkeeper Orjan Nyland, wasting the opportunity to take the lead against Brazil.
Despite the refereeing controversy, Brazil failed to capitalize on the game before Holland punished them with two late goals to give Norway a historic quarter-final berth, while Neymar settled for a goal saved from the penalty spot.
