Tour de France fans have been urged not to attend the final stage of the third stage due to wildfires in the south of France.
Monday’s mountain stage will start in Granoller, Spain, and finish within 60 kilometers (37.3 miles) of the worst fires across the border in Les Angles.
While the 195.9 km route is not expected to change, tour organizers have asked fans and non-essential workers to stay away from the final 40 km.
“An exceptional fire calls for exceptional measures for the Tour,” said race director Christian Prudhomme.
“We invite the public not to come to the end of the race or the finish site.”
Europe has been dealing with extreme heat and wildfires for the past few weeks Record heat wave recorded in June.
The fire that affected Tours is currently contained within the Pyrenees-Orientales region, where aircraft have been deployed to fight the blaze.
A key stretch of mountain pass providing access to the race will be closed.
About 3,000 people have been evacuated after a fire broke out near Perpignan on Thursday.
“We obviously think about all the populations affected by the fire, who will have to evacuate, and then we also think about the people who will be here to host the tours,” added Prudhomme.
Jonas Wingegaard holds a narrow lead over reigning champion Tadez Pogacar in the general classification standings. Isaac Del Toro won the second stage on Sunday.
