US Senior Open: Ireland’s Padraig Harrington wins for the third time

Ireland’s Padraig Harrington won the US Senior Open for a record-tying third time at Scioto Country Club in Ohio.

With Harrington winning in 2022 and 2025, Miller joins Barber as the only players to win a senior major for a third time.

The 54-year-old leads home favorite Stuart Cink by four strokes, who has a one-shot advantage going into the final round.

However, Harrington shot four under over the final 18 holes to finish the contest at 12 under, while Synch faded in the closing rounds.

England’s Ian Poulter was fourth, seven shots behind Harrington, with Welshman Jamie Donaldson fifth and Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke eighth on three under for the tournament.

“When I came here four years ago I was surprised at how big a tournament it was, it was like playing an old major,” Harrington told the USGA after his success.

“It’s very rare for me to win a tournament where it’s really boring down the stretch, usually there’s some drama but there wasn’t too much excitement today, which is nice for me.”

This is Harrington’s fourth senior major after winning the Senior Open Championship last year.

Harrington won the Open Championship in 2007 and 2008, the same year he also won the PGA Championship.
