England survived a strong fightback from Mexico to win 3-2 and book their place in the World Cup quarter-finals, ending their rivals’ deepest run in 40 years despite playing the second leg with 10 men at the Azteca Stadium.
Jude Bellingham put England ahead, scoring twice in the space of a minute on Sunday, finishing off Bukayo Saka’s cross before slotting home Harry Kane’s pass to shock the home crowd.

Mexico’s Julian Quinones pulled one back just before the break, making quick work of a loose ball in the box to fire into the roof of the net and revive the hosts’ hopes.
England were reduced to 10 men in the second half after Jarrell Quansah was sent off following a VAR review, but Harry Kane restored England’s two-goal lead with a header after goalkeeper Raul Rangel collided with Anthony Gordon.
Mexico’s Raul Jimenez reduced the score with another penalty after a VAR review confirmed Kane’s foul on Brian Gutierrez.
The match was delayed by an hour due to bad weather around the Azteca Stadium.
England face Norway in the last eight in Miami on Saturday.
