UK weather: third heatwave of the year begins but how different will it be?

The third heat wave of the year is expected to hit parts of the UK with temperatures up to 34C by midweek.

This heat wave is the highest temperature seen at the end of June at 37.7 C.

Yellow heat-health alerts have been issued from the UK Health Protection Agency across the Midlands and southern England until 20:00 GMT on 11 July.

The UKHSA suggests that smaller, more life-threatening impacts are expected in health and social care services for vulnerable people.

Northern parts of the UK will turn warmer but cloud and rain may persist, particularly in western Scotland.

Temperatures could rise to 31C in the Midlands, East Anglia and South East England on Monday afternoon.

With temperatures above 28C expected, the heat wave criteria announced over the next few days will be widely met in these areas.

The heat wave will see temperatures in the high-20s and low-30s across England and East Wales from mid-week.

But, Wednesday and Thursday will see temperatures rise to around 34C in London and south-east England.

Although temperatures are unlikely to reach the 37.7C recorded at the end of June, some weather forecast models suggest there is a chance we will see temperatures in the mid to high 30s this week.

The UK’s all-time high of 40.3C was set for July 2022 in Coningsby, Lincolnshire.
