Wimbledon 2026 results: Naomi Osaka stuns Arina Sabalenka to reach quarter-finals

Resurgent Naomi Osaka beat world number one Aryna Sabalenka to reach her first Wimbledon quarter-final with a stunning performance.

Japan’s Osaka won 6-2 7-6 (7-2) 6-2 7-6 (7-2) on Center Court.

This is Sabalenka’s first appearance at a Grand Slam since the 2022 French Open, and the first time she has gone straight through one of 122 matches.

But in the second match point, she trusted her racket and held it on her head, falling to an inspired performance in Osaka.

It was Osaka’s first Wimbledon last-eight appearance and reached the second week of the French Open for the first time last month.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve had so much fun on the court,” Osaka said.

“It means a lot to do here.”

This will be the fourth time in three months that the two giants have met, with Sabalenka having won the last three matches.

At this point, Osaka was matching Sabalenka speed-for-speed and moving around the court well.

Sabalenka has made a quick exit as her search for her first Grand Slam of the year continues.

Osaka will face Czech 10th seed Karolina Muchova for a place in the semi-finals.
