The International Football Federation (FIFA) has decided its position on the case of Egypt coach Hossam Hassan raising the flag of Palestine after the Pharaohs’ victory over Australia to qualify for the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, a scene that drew wide reactions on social media.

Hossam Hasan appeared after the game carrying the Palestinian flag inside the field while fans chanted pro-Palestinian slogans. He confirmed in his statements after the game that he dedicates the victory to the people of Egypt and Palestine, saying: “My heart and soul are with them.”

FIFA confirmed. In a statement to The Associated Press, There are no indications that disciplinary measures will be applied to the coach of the Egyptian national team due to the incident.

The international federation has clarified that the Palestinian flag is allowed at World Cup matches, noting that the tournament regulations allow the flags of all FIFA member national federations to be displayed as long as it is done in accordance with the stadium regulations and the International Federation’s code of conduct.

“The flags of all 211 member national associations are permitted during FIFA tournaments and fans may display them in accordance with the stadium regulations and the FIFA Code of Conduct,” FIFA said in a statement.

The Palestine Football Association is one of the member federations of the International Federation that is allowed to fly the Palestinian flag at FIFA tournaments according to the tournament’s organizing regulations.
