Skerries 100: Irish road race abandoned after fatal crash


The Skerries 100 motorcycle road race has been abandoned after a fatal crash on Sunday.

The incident happened in the junior support race, which was the second race of the day.

A statement from the Loughashini Motorcycle Supporters Club, which organizes the races, said it was “saddened to announce that a competitor has sadly passed away following a tragic accident during a race”.

The next of kin of the rider are being notified and further details will be released, organizers added.

The Skerries 100, which takes place in County Dublin, is returning for the first time in four years after road racing was affected by rising insurance costs in the Republic of Ireland.

Northern Ireland rider William Dunlop was the last rider to lose his life at the Skerries 100 in 2018.

On Saturday, his brother Michael, who has a record 36 wins at the Isle of Man TT, won the opening race in the 2026 race before the fatal crash.

2026 is the third death in a road race on the island of Ireland.
