He announced a surprise comeback in 2013 with the surprise release of his self-titled album. And on Saturday, Beyoncé he did it again, dropping a new song.
The singer released a new single, titled Morning Dew (Donk), on the Thursday of the July holiday weekend. Reports say that the song was originally made for her second single, B’Day, which was released in 2006.
In a press release from Beyoncé’s representatives, the song was called “a direct acknowledgment to her loyal BeyHive to commemorate the upcoming B’Day celebration”, according to Rolling Stone.
It was co-written by Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream and Darius Dixon, and produced by Beyoncé and Williams. The song was released alongside a music video that also uses twelve-year-old photographs by Cliff Watts, who also photographed Beyoncé on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 2007.
B’Day will celebrate its 20th anniversary in September. The new release will appear on the reissue of the album. No details of the re-release have been revealed.
Although the new song is supposed to appear on the 2006 album, there were speculations in 2014 that the singer, who has won 35 Grammy Awards, would be surprised to release a follow-up album to his famous 2013 effort which will contain a song called Donk. The song of the same name was registered and Beyoncé and Ascap (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) in October 2014.
B’Day had songs like Deja Vu, Irreplaceable and Ring the Alarm. It was his second No 1 album and he won contemporary R&B album at the 2007 Grammys.
Morning Dew (Donk) is Beyoncé’s first new single since her debut album Cowboy Carter in March 2024.
The album saw him collaborate with country stars Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson and Shaboozey. It debuted at number 1 in several countries and became his first album to top the top albums chart.
To support the song, Beyoncé embarked on the Cowboy Carter Tour, which also saw her complete a one-night stand at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in June 2025.
