Serena Williams’ return to Wimbledon didn’t end the way she wanted or the way many of us hoped.
But for me, there are still many positives to take away.
If Serena decides to play the US Open next month, as I expect she will, then I think her first singles match since 2022 showed more than enough that she can win matches on the WTA Tour and at Flushing Meadows in the coming weeks.
However, she lost to Australia’s Maya Joynt at Wimbledon – where she suffered a knee injury He denied a double presence Along with her sister Venus – I actually thought she played well enough to make us wonder if there was more to the comeback.
Seeing Serena reminded me of watching legendary footballers like Ronaldinho. The movement may not be what it once was, but the talent and natural ability are unmistakable.
Elite talent doesn’t just disappear, and Serena’s timing and shotmaking remain exceptional.
He has spoken openly about returning to play for his family, but Serena is a fierce competitor.
I can’t imagine him playing just for appearances if his body doesn’t allow him to compete or the results don’t come. Not the way he was built.
I think the North American hard-court season is going to give a clear indication of where he stands physically in terms of the conditions they’ve played in.
Things like Washington or Cincinnati are incredibly hot and incredibly humid. The US Open could be the same.
