Two of the most exciting leaders in the world, Vinicius Jr and Erling Haalandwill shine on Sunday evening in New Jersey as Brazil face Norway in a blockbuster Round of 16 match.
Throughout their global dominance, Brazil have previously struggled to get past Norway, and after four failed attempts, the Selecao will be hoping the fifth time is the charm.
Carlo Ancelotti’s talented team has its flaws, and after barely surviving in the last 32 against Japan, they need to improve against Japan. Norway – one of the dark horses in this race.
Led by Haaland and Martin Odegaard, Norway will arrive with bragging rights – they are one of three countries that Brazil have faced at the World Cup without registering a single victory.
Brazil finished top of Group C, winning Scotland and Haitiand drawing and Morocco. They fought from goal to goal beat Japan 2-1 in stoppage time in the last 32.
Norway finished second in Group I, winning against Iraq and Senegal and fall to France. They published late 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast in the last 32 – the Scandinavian country’s first victory in the World Cup after coming out behind Italy in 1938 and 1998.
Whether it’s club or country, Haaland’s future impact is irreplaceable.
Of Norway’s 10 goals at the tournament, Haaland has accounted for half – numbers that are remarkable for a 25-year-old making his World Cup debut.
Next Sunday, Norway will need their 1.95-metre- (6.4ft)-long ponytail charm to strike again if they are to reach the quarterfinals for the first time.

Norway can be inspired by their 1998 World Cup team, which beat Brazil 2-1 in the group stage. And they need look no further than their coach Stale Solbakken – Norway’s central midfielder – for advice.
“Brazil are favourites, yes, but we hope to give them a game, and we are not playing this game for fun – we are playing to win the game and to reach the quarterfinals,” said Solbakken. “It’s possible, but it’s very difficult.”
The Norwegians will be wary of the trumpet of Brazilian Vinicius whose four goals in the match have made him the top scorer and the most powerful player. Vinicius became the first Brazilian since Ronaldo and Rivaldo in 2002 to play in all three group games at the World Cup. This was the last time Brazil lifted the trophy.
Opta’s supercomputers give Brazil a 53.6% chance of winning in regulation time, while Norway’s chance of winning is 22.4%.
