Callum Walsh is planning a “career-best performance” to fight live on his return to Dublin Sky Sports August 8.
3 Arena, the Irish middleweight will face former European champion Tyler Denny.
He is looking to unlock new dimensions in his boxing. “I think there’s more to come. I’m looking for that one performance,” Walsh said. Sky Sports. “I’m still trying to make it happen.
“It takes two to tango,” he adds. “I’m trying my best here and be the best I can be on the night.
“I’m looking forward to a career-best performance so far and hopefully I can get it in Ireland and finally be happy to fight and show people what I’m really capable of.”
But Walsh knows that Denny, when on form, is a formidable opponent.
“I know he’s going to show up and he’s going to try to beat me. And I’m ready, I’m ready for the challenge,” he said of the Englishman. “He’s going to win and that’s it.”
Walsh insisted he would not back down from threats. He’s gunning for the knockout.
“I’ve seen a lot of comments that there’s going to be an upset, he’s going to beat me. I’m looking forward to the challenge. I’m going to prepare as much as I can and I’m going to be my best on the night and hopefully take him out there with a career-best performance,” Walsh said.
“I think I have to mix it up, definitely be more aggressive, 100%, and not let him get into that groove. Just bring the fight to him,” he added.
“Being able to go all out, flat out for 10 rounds and if I can’t get him out of there (the win) is a really clear decision. But my plan is definitely to be aggressive and try to finish the fight.”
Ireland’s atmosphere will be inspiring, if not quite galvanizing.
“You want to take the energy and enjoy it, but you don’t want to take it too much and try to enjoy it too much and the next thing you lose the fight. So I’m always very focused,” Walsh said.
“It’s only after you raise your hand that you can really look around and look at the crowd.
“That’s the best part. When you look at the crowd, it’s a sold-out arena and everybody’s singing and everybody’s happy, that’s when you really enjoy it.”
He remembers his previous fight in Dublin. “Last time I fought in 3 arenas it was unbelievable. I got knocked out in the second round and the crowd went crazy. I would advise people to bring umbrellas,” he laughed.
“If they’re sitting close to the ring, bring an umbrella. There was beer flying everywhere. Last time I got hit with a pint inside the ring during the celebration. 3 It was raining inside the arena. I really like the crowd, the energy, the buzz, it was incredible. So I can’t wait to get back there.
“It’s going to be a great night. One of the best nights. It’s going to be a great card all the way through.”
