Glastonbury for tennis and its unique aura – why fans adore Wimbledon.

A shared love of Wimbledon and tennis player Boris Becker also brought Jacqueline Webb-Watson and Nicola Dawson together in a 40-year friendship.

Jacqueline, who lives in Loughton, Essex, said her “love affair” with SW19 began in 1977 when she listened to matches on the radio, before visiting for the first time with her family in 1984.

“We arrived at 11:30 and went straight in – I’m still confused by the lack of a line-up that day,” recalls the 58-year-old.

During that time, she met Baker’s fan Nicola and the pair have had “Great Adventures” camping at Wimbledon over the years.

But her “absolute highlight” is watching the 2013 men’s semi-finals – where Andy Murray finally won his first title.

“That day was pure magic. Hot, sunny, incredible matches from the center court seats, and the sheer joy of seeing a British man reach the final. I have to admit, I definitely shed a tear when Andy finally won,” says Jacqueline.

She said Wimbledon’s “distinctive Britishness … the queue, the clean courts and the famous organisation” made it the best tournament in the queue.

Jacqueline added: “I’ve been to four Grand Slams, so it might be biased, but Wimbledon is really in a league of its own.
