FIFA confirmed today, Saturday, that the France-Paraguay match will go ahead as planned, despite growing concerns over the weather conditions in the US city of Philadelphia, which has seen a double whammy in recent days.
According to French TV channel RMC, the match will start on time as originally planned, although many of the 2026 World Cup games have been affected by severe storms that have hit parts of the United States in recent weeks, causing some of them to be postponed or rescheduled.
The International Football Federation (FIFA) explained in an official statement that it is closely monitoring the weather developments, noting that the safety of players and fans remains a priority.
The statement says: “We continue to monitor the weather conditions and we will provide you with additional information as soon as it becomes available,” indicating FIFA’s willingness to take any precautionary measures if circumstances warrant.
The highly-anticipated clash comes after France qualified for the round of 16 with a convincing three-goal win over Sweden, while Paraguay retained their place at the same stage with a penalty shootout victory over Germany in one of the tournament’s most notable upsets so far.
