Egypt coach Hossam Hassan has confirmed that the Pharaohs will not be afraid to face Argentina in the 2026 World Cup finals, stressing that “no Egyptian is afraid of anyone” after their historic qualification on penalties at the expense of Australia.
Speaking to MBC Egypt after the match, Hossam Hassan expressed his pride in his players, saying: “I am proud of my team. We were the better side, controlled the match and possession and outplayed Australia in everything. We played until the last second to win.”
He added: “Marmoush almost scored early in the second half and after the draw we played a one-sided game and put pressure on Australia until they retreated into their defensive areas.”
As for the crying of Mohamed Salah and the technical staff after qualifying, Hossam Hassan said:
The technical director revealed Salah’s brilliant secret, explaining: “I’m glad I thought about changing Salah’s position. It was not by chance, but rather I gave him physical and psychological comfort so that he would give his best and contribute to the team. I think that in Europe they did not rely on him in this position.”
Regarding the confrontation between Lionel Messi and Argentina, Hossam Hasan emphasized. “No Egyptian is afraid of anyone. We know our competitors and respect them, and we will strive to consider the reasons why. We will examine the whole team, whether with or without Messi. We have ambitions and why don’t we win? I have loyal players.”
Notably, the Egyptian national team reached the quarter-finals for the first time in their history, defeating Australia 4-2 on penalties at the Dallas Stadium, after the initial and extra time ended 1-1.
