Messi explodes in the faces of his teammates

Summit expected on Tuesday

Lionel Messi was not happy with Argentina’s hard-fought 3-2 win over Cape Verde in the World Cup round of 32 despite the reigning champions progressing to the last eight, as the Argentine star slammed his team’s performance as he looked ahead to their next clash with Egypt.

After the game in the mixed zone of Miami, where he was named the man of the match, Messi did not hide his displeasure with the level of play in the press statements, saying:

“Scoring the first goal was the most difficult and we thought it would help us control the match and play more calmly, but the opposite happened. We lost the ball at times, fell behind a lot and couldn’t press them like we wanted to.”

“We have to correct our mistakes, which were many today. Our lines were too far apart. The ball seemed too long for our two defensive hearts. We were distracted. They were always one player ahead. They made us run because we couldn’t put the right pressure on them.”

Messi warned not to underestimate any team in the World Cup, saying: “These are qualifying games. Nobody gives you anything for free. Some may underestimate some teams because of their name, but we knew this match was never going to be easy. That’s what makes this World Cup so special. The competition is very fierce and every match is very difficult.”

The Argentinian star concluded his statements by emphasizing that the team “did everything possible on the field”, adding: “We gave everything we had, whether we played well or not. Now the most important thing is to recover, focus on the next match and take positive aspects from today’s game.”

Argentina face a thrilling World Cup Round of 16 clash with Egypt after the Pharaohs pulled off a historic penalty shoot-out win over Australia to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in their history.
