The answer came in an official statement
The Senegalese Football Association released an official statement on Friday evening strongly responding to allegations that have been made in some media and social media following the team’s participation in the 2026 World Cup.
The federation said in an official statement that it strongly rejects what it describes as “dangerous media misrepresentations” that are unfounded, especially the article that has been widely circulated on the Internet, “United States Federal Officials World Cup: party nights, fancy drinks and women on the list” article.
The Senegalese federation has strongly denied the validity of these allegations, describing them as defamation that affects the honor and reputation of its leaders, as well as among the public, partners and international institutions such as FIFA and the Confederation of African Football.
The federation confirmed that the content was part of a coordinated disinformation campaign aimed at discrediting the organization, stressing that the behavior attributed to its officials was “completely inconsistent with the integrity, morality and dignity expected of them”.
In this situation, the Senegalese federation announced its intention to respond decisively, explaining that on Friday it submitted a formal criminal complaint to the Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme Court of Dakar, represented by its president, Abdoulaye Vallée, and its legal advisor, Mohamed Seydoux Diagne.
The alleged offenses under Articles 255, 258, 260, 262 of the Penal Code and the provisions of the Press Law include defamation and spreading false news, as the Union has provided the Prosecutor’s Office with all the evidence necessary to launch a comprehensive criminal investigation to identify and prosecute all those responsible and those who defame them.
The federation emphasized that this coordinated media campaign seriously damages the reputation of the Senegalese federation among the Senegalese people, their families, the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the Confederation of African Football (CAF), its economic partners and official sponsors.
Reaffirming its absolute respect for press freedom and the right to information, the federation stressed the need to strictly uphold the basic rules of ethics and fact-checking, warning that “any attempt to destabilize the system and undermine the stability necessary for the governance of Senegalese football will not be tolerated.”
The Senegalese Football Association concluded its statement by emphasizing its full confidence in Senegal’s judicial system to restore the honor of its voluntary and professional leaders, at a time when this position comes under intense media scrutiny surrounding the national team after participating in the World Cup.
