In his famous song Welcome to New York, Taylor Swift he sings: “Like any great love, it makes you think.”
The megastar has certainly done it this week, preparing what looks like a big wedding at Madison Square Garden in New York. Vans unloading flowers, food and what appears to be the makings of a large white house, have been seen outside the stadium in recent days.
Many questioned whether Swift had a marriage with the American football player Travis Kelce in large areas. There were rumors in the past that the singer will tie the knot at his Rhode Island estate, or in the grounds of a palace on the shores of Lake Como. Even a private British members’ club, Estelle Manor in the Cotswolds, was on the list of possible venues. Perhaps the New York City location was too treacherous?
The location, however, was confirmed on Thursday evening when Donna Kelce, the groom’s mother, was seen walking through JFK airport with a big face.
While some thought Swift would go for a low-key affair, she has long said she wants a big wedding with thousands of her closest friends. She told The Graham Norton Show on the BBC last year: “I know it’s going to be fun planning because I think the only weddings that are stressful are the ones where there’s a lot of pressure and people are at risk. I’m not going to do it – it’s going to be fun.”
Their friends and family were also seen leaving the Ritz-Carlton hotel new Yorkwhere the rooms are around £1,000 a night, to go to a dinner organized at the stadium on Thursday. These include Swift’s childhood best friend, Abigail Anderson Berard, resplendent in yellow silk, Kelce’s aunt and uncle, and Swift’s publicist Tree Paine.
Actress and author Lena Dunham, Swift’s longtime partner Jack Antonoff, celebrity Gigi Hadid and Hollywood star Bradley Cooper were also spotted en route to Madison Square Garden for the audition. Ed Sheeran, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Sabrina Carpenter were also spotted arriving in New York City, possibly before the event.
Eagle-eyed fans noticed that Swift’s former partner, Blake Lively, was not among the crowd at the event, instead attending a horse show in upstate New York. It has been reported that the two fell out after private text messages between the actor and Swift were revealed in court documents in a lawsuit between Lively and ex-boyfriend Justin Baldoni.
Those hoping to see the festivities on the Instagram pages of hundreds of guests will be disappointed: the happy couple is reportedly enforcing a ban on cell phones. It is not known whether details of the wedding will be published; Rumor has it that Swift turned down Vogue magazine, which wanted to cover the event.
One amazing paparazzo managed to get past all the security and tents kill a minimalistic, minimalistic image of the decoration of a rehearsal dinner. The venue was lit by soft pink lights, with a romantic floral theme similar to the one featured in the couple’s engagement photo, which was taken in a flower-filled garden. The NYPD has a heavy police presence at the event, with 11 streets closed and tents set up at the border of the restricted area to prevent fans from gathering and taking pictures of those entering and exiting. A permit for an event of this scale that requires road closures can cost as much as $66,000 a day, according to the New York Times. The New York City permit office has also approved an event of more than 1,000 people at the stadium, according to documents obtained and the Associated Press.
Perhaps in order to cover the confusion of their marriages that are starting on the 4th of July week, the the pair donated $26m (£19m) to charity in the old days. Swift’s rep said: “This week, Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift have donated $26m to charities across the United States. They include the following: City Harvest, New York City; Food Bank of NYC; New York Cares; Los Angeles Regional Food Bank; Harvesters – The Community Food Network, Kansas City, MO.”
Swift and Kelce’s romance has been one of the funniest many talks about love stories for ten years. She sings all the time about the possibility of dating the boy on the football team, and she seemed very happy next to her real jock, after many failed relationships – many of which inspired her music.
Although this week has been a fantasy game of “will she-won’t she”, it seems that Swift will get the answer she’s been waiting for “it’s a love story, baby just say yes”.
