Heavyweight Oleksandr Usyk is in talks with Dana White Boxing for a retirement fight against Deontay Wilder in the US.
Ukrainian The WBA ‘Super’, WBC and IBF released their heavyweight titles But last week he said he is not retiring and wants “one last dance”.
Usyk, 39, is undefeated in 25 professional fights and is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters of his generation, while Wilder, 40, is a former world champion and has passed the mark.
Usyk’s team director Serge Lapin told BBC Sport: “Usyk has already said that he sees Deontay Wilder as his opponent for the final dance.
It is a match with great potential from a sporting, media and international perspective.
American Wilder’s manager Shelly Finkel told BBC Sport that “Deontay would take Usyk if offered.”
The fight could be promoted by Zuffa Boxing, where Usyk could link up with the new promotion in the latter stages of his career.
Fronted by UFC president White and funded by Saudi Arabia, Zuffa Boxing seeks to challenge boxing’s established promotional model by hosting its own champions instead of relying on the sport’s traditional belts.
Lapin added: “We are in direct discussions with Zuffa Box at a high level. No deal has been signed at this stage.”
“Zuffa Boxing is considered one of the most likely partners for a major international event.
“The final structure will be determined based on the fight, the fighters and the overall size of the project.”
