Georgia Stanway: Arsenal sign Lionesses midfielder after leaving Bayern Munich | football news

Arsenal have signed Lionesses midfielder Georgia Stanway after leaving Bayern Munich.

The 27-year-old’s contract at Bayern expired at the end of last season after spending four years at the German club.

Stanway previously spent seven years at Manchester City in the Women’s Super League, where she made 186 appearances and scored 67 goals for the club.

He returns to the English top flight and looks to add to his trophy haul by helping City win a WSL title, three FA Cups and three League Cups.

After leaving to join Bayern, he continued to thrive in Germany and won the Bundesliga title in each of his four seasons in Munich.

He helped the club lift two German Cups and two German Super Cups, making a total of 128 appearances and scoring 32 goals.

Stanway was an integral part of England’s midfield and scored 33 goals in 93 games for the Lions, helping them lift the Women’s Euros in both 2022 and 2025.

“It’s an incredible feeling and I’m very proud to be joining Arsenal,” he said.

“This is a huge club that is taking the women’s game to a new level and I want to be a part of it.

“I want to win trophies and grow as a player, and this is the right place to do it with the support of an incredible fanbase.”

Sledgers: Stanway adds new dimension to Arsenal’s midfield

Arsenal boss Rennie Slagers says Stanway will offer a “new dimension” to Arsenal’s midfield.

“Georgia is a brilliant midfielder and we are thrilled that she is an Arsenal player,” Slagers said.

“He will add a new dimension to our midfield, bringing experience and our winning mentality. We are looking forward to pre-season work ahead of a big campaign ahead.”
