Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo stole the spotlight again, but this time outside the green box, after his appearance in front of the Portuguese national team headquarters in Toronto, Canada turned into an exclusive sight after qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 with a 2-1 win over Croatia.
Ronaldo scored Portugal’s first goal from the penalty spot, the first in World Cup qualifying history, and is also the greatest player to score in the knockout stages of the tournament.
Thousands of Portuguese fans gathered in front of the hotel where the national team delegation is staying and kept chanting Ronaldo’s name as they waited for him to leave in high spirits after their victory over Croatia.

In a video circulating, the Portugal captain can be seen leading his teammates in front of a hotel room window, asking the players to move quickly before he appears in front of the fans.
As Ronaldo left, the hotel grounds erupted in cheers as the fans’ voices continued to chant his name frantically, in a scene that reflected the overwhelming popularity enjoyed by Brazil’s Europe captain.
The question was not limited to joy, but fans were eager to take videos and photos, while Ronaldo’s appearance seemed to be the highlight for them, confirming once again that the Portuguese star is still an exceptional public icon, even in his forty-first year.
The Portuguese team continues its campaign in the 2026 World Cup, where it met Spain in the eighth final round of the competition.
