Cristiano Ronaldo revealed his mixed feelings after leading Portugal into the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup with a 2-1 win over Croatia, a game in which he finally scored his first goal in the knockout stages of the tournament.
Ronaldo was named man of the match for the second time in the current edition after a crucial role against Croatia under Luka Modric, as he did against Uzbekistan in the group stage, and the Don spoke to the media after receiving the award, referring to several files.
Portuguese newspaper Apola quoted Ronaldo’s sister Catia Aveiro as hinting that his international career was coming to an end before Portugal’s 2-1 win over Croatia, with Ronaldo commenting on the comments after the match.
He confirmed Ronaldo Talking about his future is “not important now”, adding. “After winning or losing the tournament, I will have time to talk about this matter, sit down with my family and then make the most appropriate decision.”

In a touching gesture, Ronaldo dedicated the qualification to his late partner Diogo Jota, saying: “This is a special day for Jota, who is watching us from above. Ronaldo concluded his statements by talking about the captain of Croatia. “Yes, I said goodbye to him. He is still a legend in the football world and we are close in age. I have a lot of respect for Modric for what he has to offer in the world of football.”
