Video: Ramos’ strike knocked out Croatia and revived Cristiano’s World Cup.

Portugal qualified for the last 16 of the World Cup after a thrilling 2-1 win over Croatia in a game that saw a strong attacking display and a thrilling round of 32 tie.

In the 90th + 4th minute, Ramos went up to the penalty area and with an unstoppable header he turned the perfect pass of his teammate Rafael Leao into the right corner of the Croatian goal.

And just as the Croatian stands erupted in celebration of the fateful equaliser, a slap in the face of video technology arrived to drown out the joy and decide the fate of the encounter… In the 90th + 13th minute, Josco Guardiol headed home what everyone thought was the game-saving goal in extra time.

The Croatians’ jubilation, however, did not last more than a few seconds before the video assistant referee intervened and called the on-field referee to watch the kick, and after minutes of anticipation and tension, the shock decision was made that the goal had been disallowed due to the foul preceding the score.

The final whistle blew shortly after the decision, turning Croatia’s life-saving goal into a mere painful memory and officially declaring the end of Croatia’s 2026 World Cup dream, while Portugal advanced to the round of 16 amid mixed feelings between the joy of qualification and the horror of the final minutes.
