United States President Donald Trump says the US Navy is acting “like pirates” as he described an operation to seize a submarine blocked by Iranian ports.
“We … landed on top of it and seized the ship. We seized the cargo, seized the oil. It’s a very profitable business,” Trump said Friday at a rally in Florida.

“We are like bandits,” he added to the cheers of the crowd. “We’re like pirates, but we don’t play.”
Prior to The US and Israel attacked Iran on February 28, Tehran retaliated against Israel by the Gulf countries that host US bases.
Iran also closed the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway through which 20 percent of the world’s oil and gas flows.
A ceasefire between the US and Iran came into effect on April 8, but a few days later, Trump blocked Iranian ports and the Strait of Hormuz on April 13, while talks on a ceasefire, mediated by Pakistan, continued.
Trump said Friday he was “not satisfied” with Iran the latest peace proposal ending the war. He added that he did not know if they would reach an agreement, warning that he would “disrupt” them if negotiations failed.
In a report from Tehran, Resul Serdar of Al Jazeera said that Iran’s military headquarters has issued a statement, saying that the resumption of the war was “as evidence shows that the US has not done” any agreement.
“It is a check and a reaction in Tehran. The Iranians believe that they will show enough flexibility before the war during the negotiations, the talks that took place in Islamabad, and then during the ceasefire,” he said.
“But he says that he has never seen the same approach from the US, as every time Iran reduces its demands, while the Americans become more aggressive.”
Meanwhile, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Esmaeil Baghaei, said in X documents that the Americans have an “indisputable right and a great responsibility” to demand an answer from the Trump administration on the “war of choice” of the US-Israel on Iran.
The war is a “clear, indisputable act”, and the people of the United States must condemn the government for “waging an illegal war with Iran and all the atrocities that it entails”, said Baghaei.
Regarding the growing opposition to the war in the US, Baghaei also posted a video of US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand saying in a recent Senate meeting that: “We have not had any evidence that Iran wants to attack this country in any way, shape or form.”
Trump met the May 1 deadline under 1973 Abolition of Military Power to obtain military authorization for Iran from the US Congress. The resolution, which states that Congress must declare war or authorize the use of force against another country within 60 days, has now been implemented without action.
Douglas Silliman, former US ambassador to Kuwait and Iraq, told Al Jazeera Trump wants to undermine Congress’s authority to support the war.
“My reading of the bill is that, starting 60 days after the start of the US military conflict, the President must go to Congress to continue it,” Silliman said.
“The problem is that it has not been fully implemented and … the administration is redefining the wartime saying that they should not do this,” he said. “I think they’re going to continue to find excuses … not to approach Congress until they have to.”
Silliman said Trump “doesn’t want to be seen as asking for permission to do something he believes he can do on his own”.
“He thinks that as a military commander, this whole law and the idea that he has to go to Congress is unconstitutional. I think members of Congress, even on the Republican side, will not agree,” he told Al Jazeera.
“Also, this comes down to whether the president thinks it’s a win for him or if it’s something he can’t win.”
