Tornado didn’t perform well in the World Championship
Al-Hilal and Saudi Arabia captain Salem Al-Dosari has decided on his stance on retiring from international football following an early exit from the 2026 World Cup.
The Saudi Arabian national team bid farewell to the 2026 World Cup in the group stageAfter finishing bottom of Group Eight with two points, which they earned after draws with Uruguay and Cape Verde, they were beaten 4-0 by Spain.
He said Saudi Al-Riyadiya newspaper Salem Al-Dossari has rejected the idea of retiring from international football after leaving the World Cup, as some fans have demanded he do so.
Al-Dossari wants to lead the Saudi Arabian national team in the upcoming tournaments, especially the Arabian Gulf Cup and the Asian Cup of Nations, which the Kingdom will host later this year and early next year.
The Tornado clearly suffered at the World Cup as they failed to score or assist in all of their group stage matches, mainly against Uruguay, Spain and Cape Verde.
Al-Dossari was not able to climb the throne of the best scorers of the World Cup of all time of the Saudi national team in an individual order, as he was tied with Sami Al-Jaber with 3 goals each.
On the other hand, Salem Al-Dossari became the second Saudi player to appear in the World Cup in history, equal with Sami Al-Jaber, Abdullah Suleiman and Hussain Abdul-Ghani, with 9 appearances, one behind Muhammad Al-Deaiah.
