The Belgium-Senegal World Cup 2026 Round of 32 match witnessed a moment that created a lot of controversy and Senegal were eliminated from the finals.
The Belgian team reserved its place in the 1/8 finals of the 2026 World Cup. After a dramatic victory over Senegal (3-2)Wednesday evening in the 32nd round of the tournament at the Seattle Stadium in the United States of America.
The match was extended to extra time which saw the Red Devils win a decisive victory thanks to a penalty taken by Yuri Thielemans himself in the 120th minute + 5.
The free-kick was controversial, with the Senegalese players adamantly against it, but the referee stood by his decision, going back to video technology and watching the game from more than one angle.
In turn, the “Archivo VAR” network, which specializes in arbitration cases, expressed its opinion on the decision, emphasizing that Belgium did not deserve a penalty.
The network said on its “X” account. “Wrong video technological intervention in the Belgium-Senegal match”.
He continued. “Tillmans extends his leg forward in front of Kamara’s movement, leading to contact. This shot does not require the intervention of video technology as it was the Belgian player who caused this tackle entirely on purpose and therefore the situation does not qualify as a clear and obvious foul.”
