Thiau declined to be involved in the arbitration dispute
Senegal national team coach Pape Tiau expressed his sadness after losing 3-2 to Belgium in extra time in the 2026 FIFA World Cup 32nd final, saying he does not want to comment on arbitration decisions.
“I don’t want to comment on the referee’s decision (to award a penalty to Belgium at the crucial moment). That’s unfortunate. We must congratulate the team, which gave all its strength.”
The Senegalese coach added. “We couldn’t manage a 2-0 lead. As for the penalty, everyone can interpret it. I don’t want to get into this topic.”

He added in a statement published by the website “wow sport” Senegalese. “We had physical problems. There were players who couldn’t continue any longer, so we had to make changes. We have to accept that this is football.”
The match ended with the victory of the Senegalese, but the Belgian team suddenly stood up, scoring two consecutive goals in the 86th and 89th minutes by Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tillmans, making the score 2-2.

With this historic victory, the Belgian team set the day for the 1/8 finals of the World Cup with its American counterpart, which defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina (2-0).
