America will miss Balogun against Belgium
USA’s 2-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 2026 World Cup Round of 32 witnessed a historic event, with forward Folarin Balogun the hero, who scored the home team’s first goal before being sent off.
Balogun became the fourth player in World Cup history to score and receive a red card in the same match in the knockout stages, after France’s Zinedine Zidane in the 2006 final, Brazil’s Ronaldinho in the 2002 quarter-finals and compatriot Garrincha in the 1962 semi-finals.

Monaco forward Balogun also became the first American player to receive a red card at the World Cup since Pablo Mastroeni and Eddie Pope against Italy in the 2006 group stage.
Balogun opened the scoring for the U.S. in the 45th minute, but made a mistake that saw him sent off in the 64th minute for a tackle on a Bosnian player’s ankle during a play, which the referee ruled by going back to video technology.
With the victory over Bosnia, America agreed with Belgium in the 1/8 finals of the World Cup, after the “red devils” celebrated a dramatic victory over Senegal (3-2) in extra time.
