Iran says it will establish a “communication mechanism” with the United States to explain violations of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between them two weeks ago to end hostilities.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi announced this later informal technical discussions between Iran and the US was held in Qatar on Wednesday, as the two sides seek to advance their talks to resolve recent tensions.

Gharibabadi also said that part of the $6bn in Iran’s frozen assets will be used to buy products that Tehran wants. US President Donald Trump has previously said that the money will be used by Iran to buy only US goods.
“During meetings with Qatari officials, including the Central Bank, many issues related to the use of the first $6bn portion were reviewed,” Gharibabadi said.
“It was agreed that, based on our country’s needs, the necessary goods will be purchased and delivered to Iran.”
Meanwhile, mediators from Qatar and Pakistan held separate meetings in Doha on Wednesday with US and Iran negotiators, reporting “progress” in negotiations related to the MoU, Qatari Foreign Ministry Spokesman Majed Al-Ansari said.
“The parties agreed to continue discussions in the coming period, and the next meeting should be organized as soon as possible after the funeral of the former leader of Iran,” he said in a post on X.
The US-Iran indirect talks in the Qatari capital of Doha was held to discuss the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz and to protect the end of hostilities between the breeding since the MoU agreement was signed last month.
The MoU, brokered by Qatar and Pakistan last month, includes a 60-day moratorium, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and a deadline for a final deal to end the war and reach an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.
However, the US and Iran have gone back and forth on the meaning of more timewhich led to military strikes last week, as traffic through the Strait of Hormuz resumed.
In Doha on Wednesday, the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met with US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and reaffirmed Qatar’s continued efforts, along with Pakistan, to end the war in the Middle East.
Trump also praised the progress made in indirect talks, saying there had been “very good meetings” in Doha.
“As things stand, the denuclearization of Iran is going well,” Trump told reporters as he prepared to take his first flight aboard his new Qatar-provided Air Force One.
“We beat them (Iran) a lot… but we are doing well.”
US Vice President JD Vance on Wednesday said he could not guarantee that Washington would not return to war before next month’s MoU.
“I can’t do anything, because obviously it depends on what the Iranians are going to do,” he told reporters during a visit to Virginia Beach, Virginia. “What I can offer is this: The president will not send in our troops again unless he has to, unless there is a clear objective.”
