Disputes over the future of the African Cup of Nations are still ongoing, following the decisions of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) earlier this year.
Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football, announced. Holding the Africa Cup of Nations every 4 years instead of every two years.
Reports indicated that CAF wanted to increase the number of participating teams from 24 to 28, which caused a stir, after which the African Union denied that this move was being considered.
But reporter Mikey Junior, who specializes in African football news, spoke about the future of the Africa Cup of Nations and what CAF is thinking.
He said on his “X” account. “Reports that the Confederation of African Football’s Executive Committee has rejected President Patrice Motsepe’s proposal to expand the Africa Cup of Nations from 24 to 28 teams are inaccurate.”
He continued. “The idea is still under study, but any potential change before the 2032 Africa Cup of Nations is unlikely due to the difficulties of preparations in 2027 and 2028.”
He concluded. “The proposal includes a new qualification format and a possible plan to hold the Africa Cup of Nations every four years, with the aim of increasing the number of matches and increasing revenue.”
