At his inaugural conference…Barcelona’s president sends veiled messages to Perez

Barcelona president Joan Laporta had strong messages for rivals Real Madrid and their president Florentino Perez during his official inauguration ceremony after being re-elected as the Catalan club’s president, hinting that what is happening inside the club reflects the state of anxiety and tension.

In his speech, Laporta referred to the recent events of Real Madrid, without mentioning the name of the club or its president, saying: “In other places there are those who live in extreme tension, hold absurd press conferences and seem to have lost their compass and live in repetitive scenes.”

He added, according to the publication of the newspaper.Mundo Deportivo:“As for us, we have a more stable project with Hansi Flick, who leads a group of players who give Barcelona fans a lot of hope, in addition to the work that Deco has done in building the team, which is not easy in a football world that is constantly witnessing fluctuations.

The Barcelona president’s messages did not stop there, as he addressed the club’s ownership model, underlining the current administration’s commitment to keep Barcelona owned by its members.

“We want Barcelona to remain a member-owned club and that forces us to be more creative to compete with clubs that operate as businesses,” he said.

Then he paused for a moment and added: “There are clubs that aren’t like that yet, but they want to be like that,” a reference that those in attendance interpreted as also aimed at Real Madrid.

Laporta also stressed that Barcelona’s management will continue to defend the club against what he described as repeated attacks, adding: “We feel strong to continue to defend Barcelona. There are those who will not stop attacking the club, but anyone who targets Barcelona or its dignity will always find a president and a board of directors who will defend the institution with strength and leadership against any party.
