Sony is shutting down digital stores for the PS3 and Vita

It’s the end of the PlayStation store era on PS3 and PS Vita, while Sony plans to build it. shutting down its digital distribution service on both consoles. The PlayStation Store on PS3 will close in select markets later this year, including Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua starting in August, with “additional countries in Latin America and the Middle East” to follow by the end of 2026.

The closing of the PS3 and PS Vita “in all other countries” will take place in July 2027. After this date, Sony says that owners of the console will not be able to buy new ones, but they can continue to download the games they have already bought “in the future” after the deadline. This means that if you haven’t already bought the older titles – the PS3 and PS Vita turn 20 and 15 years old respectively this year – you still have time to do so.

“We know this news may be disappointing for PS3 and PS Vita gamers who have a special place in their hearts for this generation of games,” Sony said in its announcement. “As we continue to expand PlayStation’s capabilities on the new devices that many of our users play today, we need to focus on delivering the best games on these platforms as we look to the future.”

This announcement comes as Sony prepares to stop everything making exercise games for PlayStation for games released after January 2028 – which begs the question of how releases will be stored in the future considering the long-term nature of the digital marketplace.
