Australian star. We aim to break the curse against Egypt

Australia’s Edin Hrustic has confirmed his country is looking forward to writing a new chapter in its history when it faces Egypt in the round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup as it seeks its first win in the knockout stages of the World Cup.

Australia are hoping to end what many have described as a “curse” after failing to win the knockout stages at their previous World Cup, making the clash with Egypt historic for the team.

Hrostic expressed his confidence in his country’s ability to achieve this achievement, stressing that the team has no limits to its ambitions in the tournament.

The midfielder said in the quoted statements Australian Nine website“One day it’s going to happen (winning a qualifier), why not ours? If it’s your day, you qualify, and maybe the next day will be yours too.”

He added: “You have to create an opportunity yourself, and for that we will fight and prepare in the best way.”

Hrostic also emphasized the Australian team’s readiness for all scenarios, including penalty kicks, stressing that the technical staff and players have prepared well to face Egypt.

The Australian player also sent a funny message to his country’s fans asking them to stay up late to watch the match at dawn on Saturday, saying:

> “Go out on a Friday night, leave the club at 3am and be ready for the game at 4am.”

Australia are aiming to overcome Egypt’s ban and reach the last 16, with what would be their first ever World Cup qualifying win.
