The hosts are forcing their word in a match that was delayed by an hour
The Mexican national team knocked out their Ecuador team in the round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after winning the match 2-0 at the Azteca Stadium on Wednesday morning.
The hosts have booked their place in the Round of 16 as they await qualification from tonight’s England-DRC match.
The start of the Mexico-Ecuador match was delayed for an hour due to thunderstorms and bad weather.It is the first match of the current campaign to be postponed beyond the scheduled time, while the France-Iraq group stage match was called off at half-time for the same reason.

The home side’s most dangerous moments of the second half were witnessed in the 67th minute when Cesar Montes rose to head a corner, but the Ecuadorian keeper reacted and cleared the ball for a new corner.
Interestingly, the same player repeated the header attempt in the same minute, but this time it went near the left post.
At the other end, Kevin Rodriguez squandered Ecuador’s most dangerous chance of the second half, after hitting the post just as the Mexican goalkeeper was leaving.
Ecuador’s national team finished the game with ten men after Piero Hincap was sent off with a straight red card at half-time for abusing a Mexican player, known as the Vinicius Law, for covering his mouth.
