Britain’s Arthur Ferry was accused of dishonesty by Bosnian opponent Damir Jumhu after a dispute over a late call that helped the home player win Wimbledon.
The 23-year-old wildcard Ferry came from a set down 2-0 down to beat the 34-year-old Dzumhur 3-6 6-2 6-2 6-1.
Ferry later tried to downplay the incident, saying he thought Jumhu had caused controversy “with everyone”.
The match turned to an incident in the fourth game of the second set when Jumhur thought his serve was on tap at 15-30.
Umpire Greg Allensworth didn’t allow it, causing Jumhu to complain to the official and ask Ferry if he could “look” him in the eye and be “honest”.
Ferry said he didn’t stop playing the point and was looking at the Briton down the Jumhu court before trailing at 2-2.
“I’ll be able to play without knowing that I’ve done something that might not be true,” Jumhoor later said.
“I felt like he didn’t stop, nobody called. I didn’t ask him to replay, but honestly, because I would. Obviously we’re not all the same.”
