Moses Itauma is ready for Oleksandr Usyk, says Frank Warren | ‘He will fight for a world title by the end of the year’ Boxing news

Promoter Frank Warren says Moses Itauma has proven himself ready to take on the best in the heavyweight division, Alexander Usyk.

Warren has produced some of the biggest stars in British boxing over the years and has a keen eye for developing talent. He believes Itauma, still only 21 years old and relatively inexperienced for an elite heavyweight, is good enough to fight Usyk, the undefeated, unified and previously undisputed champion.

Warren said Sky Sports: “I love that fight. I’ll be honest with you, I love that fight right now. And I’m not rushing anyone. If we could do that fight, I’d do it right now.”

Itauma’s final display was an expert demolition of Jermaine Franklin, a consummate performance that Itauma ended with a fiery knockout. The display proves that Itauma belongs to the top end of the category.

Following his split-decision victory over Derek Chisora, Deontay Wilder said he could potentially fight next – and would be open to a fight with British star Moses Itauma.

“He was brilliant,” Warren said. “His toughness, his speed, his boxing brain, everything, his ability and the maturity he’s shown for such a young fighter is unbelievable.

“He has such quick hands and gets shots from unconventional angles.

“If he keeps winning, he’ll be fighting for the world title by the end of the year.”

Itauma’s world title fight may not come against Usyk.

The Ukrainian could vacate a belt, he could make a mandatory defense of his WBC title against Agit Kabayel, he could look for another unification – against the winner of Fabio Wardley’s fight with Daniel Dubois for the WBO championship – or indeed consider other options.

But Itauma could be a profitable option for him. “In a good time, not when the guy is really over the hill, we’ve seen guys not fight at their peak for years,” Warren said.

“We’ve been fighting the best in this heavyweight division over the last few years, like you look at the fight with Fabio and Daniel next week in Manchester. They’re not over the hill boys. They’re on the rise.”

His view for Itauma is: “Usick is undefeated. He is what he is and many people consider him the best of his era. Go for it.”
