The former Saudi Arabia goalkeeper comments on the level of his peers at the World Cup
Mohammed Al-Deaya, the former goalkeeper of “Al-Hilal” and the Saudi Arabian national team, believes that the current World Cup is not distinguished by the presence of meritorious goalkeepers.
During the “Dorina Ghair” program of the “Saudi” TV channel, Al-Dea’i said: “As I said before, there is no outstanding goalkeeper at the World Cup and people criticized me on the X platform, but this number is the best proof.”
The former Saudi Arabia goalkeeper points to statistics which show that 34 goals have been scored from outside the penalty area in the current World Cup, a record that surpasses the 2010 edition when 27 goals were scored from outside the penalty area.
Al-Di celebrated Brazil goalkeeper Alisson Becker’s goal in the 2-1 win over Japan in the Round of 32 yesterday, Monday, as he felt he was responsible for missing a shot from outside the penalty area.
He explained. “The ball is far away. The goalkeeper must bear the penalty for the foul, since he has moved back on the goal line. First you have to move forward, then there will be a reaction.”
He concluded. “The ball is also light and has been designated by FIFA to increase the number of goals, in addition to external factors such as spraying the pitch with water before and during the game, which makes the task of goalkeepers more difficult.”
It is noteworthy that the current edition of the World Cup witnessed the brilliance of many goalkeepers, Among them is the Moroccan Yassin Bono And the Egyptian Mustafa Shubert, who led two Arab teams to the group stage.
