Boulter became the 11th English singles player to fall at the first hurdle at Wimbledon, losing 6-2 6-4 to Italian teenager Tyra Caterina Grant.
It was the first time Boulter had lost in the opening round at Wimbledon since 2017, and her first ever loss in a Grand Slam qualifier.
It was 18 days after she achieved the biggest win of her career. World No. 2 Elena Rybakina won. In an amazing performance at Queen’s.
Looking to push for an unwanted history on court three, Grant, who had never competed in a singles match on grass at any level before Boulter qualified for Wimbledon this year, got off to the worst possible start.
Boulter was unable to respond as the opening set slipped away and was unable to recover from another fall early in the second.
The Brit didn’t force a single break point in the match, with Grant dropping just three points in her last four service games as she cruised to a comfortable win.
Grant, 18, was making her Grand Slam main-draw debut after advancing through the qualifiers.
Last year, 13 English players went out in the first round. Since 1988, as many as 16 have failed at the first hurdle.
A total of 9 England players are in action on Day 2 across the English club.
Also on Tuesday, Jack Pennington Jones will return to close out his match against American 28th seed Brandon Nakashima 6-3, 7-6(5), 4-3.
Eastbourne semi-finalist Toby Samuel takes on 15th seed Jakub Mencic, while British number two Jan Choinski takes on Vit Kopriva.
Jacob Fearnley meets American Alex Michelson, Arthur Ferry takes on Damir Dzumhur, Billy Harris takes on 19th seed Karen Kachanov, and Harry Wendelken takes on Valentin Royer.
